Joel Fischer is a freelance photojournalist currently living in Denver, Colorado.

Born and raised on beer and cheese in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I learned to take photos to keep myself occupied during long family road trips - which also gave me an early appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the American culture and landscape. I have continued to travel throughout the world – most recently to Siberia and Bolivia to document climate change issues.

With a background in the physical sciences as well as journalism, I have an active sense of curiosity, and it is this inquisitive spirit that has been the driving force behind my photography as well. Deeply passionate for long-term documentary projects, I am drawn to stories that create strong narratives with an intent to spark discussion on social, political and ecological issues.

Never far from my heart, the mountains have fostered a deep reverence for the environment and a healthy enthusiasm for adventure sports such as mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, and backcountry skiing.
